What is meditation? Why should one meditate? To find that out, stop meditating. To find out what is real meditation, not yours or mine, your type and my type, or X's type, but what is meditation, to find out you can't hold on to some kind of meditation that you have and then enquire. So you have to be free to enquire. First one can see very clearly that it is only a very, very quiet mind that can observe accurately. A quiet mind can observe accurately only, not a disturbed mind. So a quiet mind is absolutely necessary just to observe. But if you say, 'Ah, how am I to have such a quiet mind?' Then you are asking for a system, for a method, you are going to somebody whom you think has a quiet mind, and then asking him, 'Please tell me what to do.' And then you are caught in that trap because he will tell you and you will practice - if you are silly enough. But you see the importance of having an absolutely quiet mind. A mind that has np problem.
Meditation is the movement that destroys the observer, the experiencer; it's a movement that is beyond all symbol, thought and feeling. Its rapidity is not measurable.
The soul of Moksham is the Silent Retreats and Meditation. Meditation is the gateway to finding the silent space within. The community of Moksham was born from and is moving forward from this space. All of the groups, events and ceremonies in Moksham are founded on and around the Silent Meditation.
Everyday, Moksham opens the space for a 45 min silent meditation allowing the thoughts of the day to
drop to the background, to deepen the work that is happening and bring a fresh presence to the village.
Silent Sitting is held in the Moksham sacred point.
Based on traditional Zen techniques, seeking the direct experience of truth of being,
the repeated use of the Zen koan "Who is in?" acts like an arrow, piercing through the layers of
the mind. It exposes identification with the false personality, rigid beliefs and preconceived ideas.
It sheds old layers and reveals an expanded state of consciousness, eventually reconnecting us to the
source.
Vipassana is a way of self-transformation through self-observation. It focuses on the deep interconnection between mind and body, which can be experienced directly by disciplined attention to the physical sensations that form the life of the body, and that continuously interconnect and condition the life of the mind. It is this observation-based, self-exploratory journey to the common root of mind and body that dissolves mental impurity, resulting in a balanced mind full of love and compassion.
The scientific laws that operate one's thoughts, feelings, judgements and sensations become clear. Through direct experience, the nature of how one grows or regresses, how one produces suffering or frees oneself from suffering is understood. Life becomes characterized by increased awareness, non-delusion, self-control and peace.
