EASTERN GHATS IS FAMOUS FOR ITS RICH DIVERSITY OF BIRDS AND WILDLIFE.




Eastern Ghat Forest is bestowed with the beauty of nature. It has wild life, scenic beauty, healthy climate, and serpentine ghat roads for the tourists. It has attractions, like panoramic coffee gardens, pine jungles, Ghat roads, hills and water falls, virgin forest and typical tribal village life. Almost 66 percent of the land area of the area is covered with dense forests and towering mountains rich in green meadows at the attitude of 2000 feet to 3000 feet, the terraced valleys thronged with these colourful tribal in their natural heritage, dancing and sporting has its own appeal.



The main vegetation of the eastern ghat forest consists of dense moist deciduous jungles with grasslands. The floral diversity of the sanctuary consists of 650 plant species that include angiosperms, pteridophytes, gymnosperms, bryophytes, lichens and fungi. The dominant flora includes Sal, Piasal, Sisoo, Kendu, Gamhar, Asan, Kusum, Harida, Bahada, Amala, Mango, Tamarind, Mahua, Jackfruit, Randhan, Kangada, Jamun, Salapo, Bheru, Arjun, Char, Dhaura and Kochila.




There are many rare and endangered medicinal plants including Abutilon indicum, Cissus quadrangularis, Crateva magna, Cycas sphaerica, Garcinia xanthochymus, Gardenia gummifera, Gloriosa superba, Justicia adhatoda, Litsea glutinosa, Oroxylum indicum, Pueraria tuberosa, Rauvolfia tetraphylla, Saraca asoca, Steriospermum suaveolens, Symplocos racemosa, Tinospora cordifolia and Zanthoxylum armatum| Zanthoxylum rhetsa.

Fauna




A few minutes drive from Moksham is a protected reserve forest where many wild animal species present in this zone include elephant, wild boar Gaur, Sambar deer, Spotted deer, Peafowl, Red jungle fowl, Black buck, Leopard, Sloth bear, Chital, other bird species and reptiles including rare species such as Boiga forsteni. Chousingha (Tetracerus quadricornis) or four-horned antelope are the main attraction in this forest area.
